Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (POABI) is the subsidiary of Port of Antwerp-Bruges that specialises in global port development projects and port-related consultancy in regions such as the Middle East, India, the African continent, Brazil and South-East Asia. POABI is also active as a co-shareholder of the port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman and of Porto do Açu in Brazil. In addition, Port of Antwerp-Bruges International also manages the port of Cotonou in Benin and is studying several new opportunities.
In order to carry out these projects, POABI makes use of the extensive expertise and know-how available in the port of Antwerp and enters into specific partnerships.

POABI also supports the development of the APEC Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre. APEC is an international training institute for port and maritime affairs that focuses on knowledge transfer to professionals. The training courses offer an ideal mix of theory and practice, whereby port professionals can update their expertise on port, maritime and logistics issues in an interactive manner. Your challenge

PKNP and Port of Antwerp-Bruges International are partners in the development of the port of Lumut in Malaysia. Therefore LuMIC Development Company was created in December 2023, a joint venture company dealing with development of the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) in de state of Perak in Malaysia. This company acts as a port developer and land lord for the area around the Port of Lumut, situated in the Strait of Malacca, one of the busiest trade routes in the world. The aim is to develop a hub for imports and exports answering the needs in the ASEAN region and this with the support of the European Global Gateway initiative.
Your responsibilities
We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified manager to lead the development and investment initiatives at Lumut Port, Malaysia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in port and/or industrial development, along with general and/or project management, business development, and possesses good communication skills. The primary responsibilities of this role will include implementing a Masterplan for Lumut Port, attracting and overseeing industrial, logistical and port terminal investments, coordinating projects, and fostering seamless communication between different departments both in Malaysia and Belgium.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Business Development, Investments and strategic planning:
    Identify potential investment opportunities and partnerships to enhance Lumut Port's infrastructure and services. Analyse market trends and conduct feasibility studies to guide strategic decision-making.
  2. Team development, leadership and coordination:
    in a later stage, develop and lead a diverse team and maintain strong communication channels between different departments. Provide clear instructions, follow up on projects, and coordinate with the head office for smooth operations.
  3. Stakeholder Management:
    Cultivate positive relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, investors, and other relevant stakeholders to foster cooperation and support for port development initiatives.
  4. Performance Monitoring:
    Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure targets are met or exceeded. Implement corrective actions as needed to address any deviations from the Masterplan.

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Economics, Management, Law, Maritime studies, Engineering, Nautical sciences or any other relevant field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in port or industrial development, with a strong track record of successful project implementation
  • Proven track record in stakeholdermanagement towards business and government authorities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and team-oriented environment
  • Strong in building client relationship, developing sales strategies within a public-private environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a hands-on approach to problem-solving and coordinating plans
  • Proficient in English (both written and spoken) as it will be the primary language used for communication
